Gambling in Australia has seemingly been a continuously prevalent part of our history and culture. From the traditional game of two-up being played by soldiers in World War I & II, to having a punt on your local NRL or AFL team, the notion of gambling seems hardwired into Australian culture. There are blurred lines between where gambling is an enjoyable pastime, to when it becomes a serious problem that affects many different segments of the community. This is why I have chosen to pursue the effects of gambling in Australia specifically economically, socially, politically and culturally.
